Concrete ideas

With the recent spate of inclement weekends up (down) here in Arendal, and the perusal of this excellent site (www.homemade-modern.com) we decided, last Sunday, to turn our hand to making a concrete and timber stool. The budget for this stool (as listed on the site) is $5. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, we exceeded this figure by several 100 percent.

I don't know, perhaps this $5 was a calculated in 1974, but it's more likely a combination of our being new to the DIY furniture game and not being in the USA that has blown our budget on this particular prototype. But, happy to say it has all been worth it – the eventual 8-kilogram stool (something you might otherwise associate with an elephant) has been a resounding success!!!

We have now started to notice potential concrete forms in hitherto uninteresting, daily objects: cups, eggs, toys, packages. So stay tuned for more concrete creations in the coming winter months...
